History of Raymond Corporation
Raymond Corporation was created by George Raymond Sr. after he purchased the Lyon Iron Works in Greene, New York in 1922. The company is credited with hundreds of inventions. Among its patents are the first:
- Electric narrow-aisle lift truck
- The electric reach truck
- And, the electric double deep reach truck
In the 1950s, Raymond expanded its product line. That included mobile lift trucks with electrical and hydraulic systems.
Who owns the Raymond Corporation?
In 1997, BT Industries A.B. of Sweden acquired the Raymond Corporation. The purchase price was us$353 million. Three years later, in 2000, Toyota Industries Corporation purchased BT and the Raymond brand. Today, the Raymond factory makes a line of forklifts branded by Toyota. It also continues to market its own products under the Raymond brand. The iconic red forklifts are “Cadillac of forklifts”, some say. In 2010, Toyota reorganized the Raymond operation to streamline its material handling assets. It was merged into a single management organization called the Toyota Material Handling North America. It continues to operate and manufacture out of Greene, New York.
