Partition System
Definition: What is a Partition System?
Partition systems, also known as room dividers or just dividers, are architectural devices used to separate areas based on their uses, as well as a number of other considerations.
A number of types of partitions exist, to accommodate such differing needs as separating goods because of their chemical or physical properties, or eliminating unwanted sounds (noise), to help improve the organization of warehouse space, etc. The list is longer, but the basic uses include reduction of heating bills by separating used areas from those that are not in use, either temporarily or permanently; control of humidity, as well as containment of dust and/or odor.
To achieve these objectives, different materials and types of partitions are used, such as cubicle partitions, pipe and draper screens, walls, etc. Materials used can include wood, fabric, plexiglass, framed cotton canvas, and pleated fabric.
Partitions can be set up for long-term operation, in which case they can be fixed into walls, floors or ceilings, or short-term use, with portable dividers, often using folded wood panels on wheels.
Using partitions instead of fixed walls also makes economic sense: their construction, operation and removal are less expensive; partitions are also more flexible to use.
