Nestable Pallet
Definition: What is a Nestable Pallet?
Nestable pallets can fit inside one another. This makes stacking very efficient and better than so-called stackable pallets.
Stackable pallets, on the other hand, have solid platforms on the bottom. They permit double-stacking of pallets with goods and other pallets.
The advantage of these pallets is easy to see when they are empty. Many can be loaded on transportation (such as a truck or van) with minimum space used when they are empty. They take less space than a number of other types of pallets that can be loaded on that same transport vehicle by a margin of up to 4:1.
This space-saving advantage over stackable pallets reduces return freight costs substantially and over the course of a year across a fleet of trucks can result in major cost savings.
There is also a major difference in cost. The cost to produce a nestable pallet is usually anywhere between 50 and 80 percent lower than the cost to produce a stackable pallet.
The lower cost of raw material costs — such as plastic, wood, etc. — is what dictates the savings.
