Box Girder Crane
Definition: What is a Box Girder Crane?
The box girder crane is an overhead travelling crane that uses a “box” configuration. The design includes a four-sided box. The box has a running surface plate for the hoist trolley that is attached to the bottom of the box. The box girder has greater loading capabilities. The ability to span greater bridge distances is this type of crane’s another distinct advantage. It is used mostly in pairs with the hoisting mechanism operating on rails that is attached to the top of each box girder.
