Batch Picking
Definition: What is Batch Picking?
Coordinating the transfer of inventory to permit selecting goods to fill more than one order simultaneously is known as batch picking.
Orders that are batched together save the warehouse or manufacturer repeated transit time in a warehouse or factory to the same location.
Short-interval scheduling that assigns orders into groups (called: waves) is known as wave picking. The practice allows joint release of goods, allowing management to coordinate several activities at the same time, either in parallel or in sequence.
Both tactics are critical as they help to reduce the time a picker requiress to select and deliver inventory by about 60%. Batch picking is the preferred method in smaller operations. Wave picking works better in larger production and storage environments.
