New Year’s Resolutions for your Business

1. Show customers some Love.

“Acquiring a new customer can cost 6 to 7 times more than retaining an existing customer. This can be a very large amount of money if you consider the time, energy and resources you, your marketing and sales team put together to gain a new customer. Statistically it takes about 5 years for a business to lose ½ of their customers. Knowing this, it is wise to take the time to know who your best customers are and show them some love. Take the time to write a card, give them a phone call and even make a visit out to them to ensure that everything is running smoothly. These small gestures may mean more business for you in the long run and a great customer testimonial for your business.

2. Delegate more.

When you look back at 2011, you may realize that some of your work could have been delegated. Consider what you could gain by handing over tasks that could be completed by contractors, virtual assistants or full-time employees. By reducing your time spent on administrative tasks, learning a new technology/software or company blog updates, you can work on the business. What we mean by “work on the business” is to focus on activities that generate business and keeps your existing customers coming back to you.

3. Update your Website.

When was the last time you updated your website? If you cannot recall the last time you have updated the content on your website, it’s probably time for you to do so. Sit down and go through each webpage and see what prospects are experiencing when browsing through your website. Also, updating the web content is good for SEO (search engine optimization). Google, Yahoo and other search engines like it when your web content is fresh and relevant… which could help your business rank higher in Search Engine results.

4. Get Connected.

Being in the Materials Handling Business is great. There are many great communities you can join online. One of our favorites is Linkedin. There are many Materials Handling and warehousing/distribution folks and groups that you can join up with. Whether you are representing conveyor systems, racking, forklift trucks, warehouse software or consultation, you can easily connect with many key decision makers and be relevant when working with them which will help you put together relevant marketing and sales campaigns to close the deal.

Please take the time to print out these short simple tips to get your 2012 going.
